Escapees Magazine published the article about our surge protector.

In the spring edition of Escapees Magazine (March-April 2026), Escapees Magazine published the article about our surge protector. We gave Escapees Magazine permission to reprint parts of our surge protector article.

This isn’t the first time an RV magazine has published some of our articles. It has happened several times in the last eight years; in fact, this isn’t the first article republished about our RV electrical system. It seems that articles of this type are very popular items in RV magazines. Any RV plugged into an unknown power source needs a surge protector.

Escapees Magazine

I have been waiting for the magazine to hit the streets (mailboxes) before I told you all about this success. The lead article in this edition is about RVing to Waterton Park in southern Canada. The cover photo is of a travel trailer in early summer along the Ice Field Parkway. This summer, Waterton Park in Canada is on our list, along with the eastern side of Glacier National Park. Two years ago, we were headed to Jasper at the north end of the ice fields parkway. but were turned around by wildfires. Here is a link in case you missed it. Sadly, our Canada Trip was cut short

About our trip to Singapore

I know some of you are expecting to hear about our spring trip that started in Singapore, and, to not disappoint, we got lucky: our grueling 18-hour flight arrived an hour early. I had the unfortunate luck to sit next to a person who fell asleep before takeoff and only woke up to eat, and he was blocking our route to the restroom, if you can use the word rest and associate it with an airplane lavatory.

I think we picked a good flight that departed from Los Angeles at 10:30 pm. The first thing we did was eat a midnight meal, then sleep the rest of the night. Since we were chasing the sun, our next meal (breakfast) was still well before sunrise. After that, we got some more sleep. Our plane crossed the dateline, and we landed in Singapore early in the morning. Air time was 17 hours covering 8800 miles.

Getting up early and doing a Cardiac Stress Test before our flight to Singapore also helped because by the time we got on the airplane, we were very tired. I am very thankful for all the comments on the last article and for how modern medicine is helping people live longer, stronger lives. If you didn’t see the story, here is a link. I didn’t have a heart attack.

How did the Escappes Magazine article look?

Here are some clippings from the Escapees Magazine article as they appeared in the magazine. If you didn’t get to see the original article, here is a link. Our surge protector died while protecting our RV

  1. It is amazing how something so small can protect your rig and yet if you don’t have it, how much havoc a surge can cause. We went years with no issue, and then within 2 weeks, we had several power outages that finally blew our protector. It is so nice to just replace that module and be all new again.

  2. Scott,
We’ve been using the Hughes Power Watchdog for 5 years now.
Very pleased with how it works & the number of times it has
Saved our rig from all the possible campground faults is astonishing.
