Roughing it Smoothly Carhenge

Published (Again) in Roughing it Smoothly Magazine

I am proud to report that another FoxRVTravel article has been published in Roughing It Smoothly Magazine. The article is about our visit to Carhenge in Alliance, Nebraska, and it was published in the summer edition of the Tiffin Roughing It Smoothly Magazine. This is the second edition (in a row) to publish articles from our website.

Back to Alaska

I mentioned (perhaps more than once) that I felt our trip to Alaska was incomplete because many locations in Alaska don’t have road connections. It is hard to RV without roads. We didn’t even visit the capital of Alaska because of the lack of roads. Juneau is only one of two state capitols you can’t drive to. There are only three ways to get to Juneau: by boat or airplane… I’m going to let you guess the third way.

On our way to Alaska

When we embarked last Saturday (embarked was the right word because we embarked on a cruise ship to Alaska), we didn’t know that the summer edition of the Roughing it Smoothly magazine would be published last week. When we first started planning our cruise to Alaska last summer, we didn’t know that Roughing it Smoothly would pick up our articles about Alaska (or Nebraska).

I am glad to have something to show you now that we are back in the lower 48 after our cruise. Since I cannot publish a new article using my cell phone, it was very nice to have this breaking news to share. Next week, I will tell you about our cruise to Alaska.

Carhenge

Spring Edition, 2025, Roughing it Smoothly.

The first article was about our expedition to Alaska and seeing Denali (the mountain) after a long wait in the rain. It wasn’t planned or expected, but we are thrilled that the magazine has decided to share our adventures with its readers. If you missed it, here is a link directly to the magazine article: Roughing it Smoothly—Denali Quest.

Summer edition, 2025, Roughing it Smoothly

In the spring, Roughing it Smoothly dedicated nine pages to our 2024 visit to see Denali National Park in our motorhome. The summer edition of the Roughing it Smoothly Magazine dedicated five pages to our early April visit to Nebraska and Carhenge. Here is a link directly to the magazine article: A sight to behold, Carhenge.

Carhenge

Carhenge is a very unique place.

Jim Reinders designed and erected a not-so-exact replica of Stonehenge in western Nebraska. After many calculations, Jim Reinders made a scale model of Stonehenge (in England) using cars from the local salvage yard. The locals (conservative as western Nebraska residents are known to be) thought it was an eyesore and nearly made him get a license for a junkyard.

The town initially wanted the assembly torn down but has warmed to the display. Now, they seem to rather like the notoriety that Carhenge brings to the town. Each Summer, hundreds of visitors see the sunset on the summer solstice at Carhenge.

  1. We went there also and did. a video. It is pretty interesting, to say the least. Amazing how money can change people’s idea of eye sore. lol. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Congratulations on being published!!!

We were headed to Carhenge a couple of years ago, but a warehouse fire had closed the road. We will have to put it on our travel map again!

We are off to a COE in North Dakota today for eight nights, then to Medora.

Hope you are having a great time…..

    Kate and John
