Campsite Review: Kootenai County Campground

Campsite Review: Kootenai County Campground is at the very north edge of Cour d’Alene on Dalton Avenue two blocks east of Highway 95. On the north side of Dalton Avenue is the suburb of Dalton Gardens. The cities of Cour d’Alene and Dalton Gardens have grown to merge into one suburb. The terrain was farmland and now is suburbs. Next door to the fairgrounds to the east is Cour d’Alene High School and to the west is a four-lane RV dump station. To the south of the RV park is an arena for barrel racing. Horse stalls are available just south of the RV Park.

Observations

FoxRVTravel-Campsite Review: Kootenai County Campground insider info:

Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park is new. This place is so new that the sites were covered with asphalt this spring, it is so new that the restrooms have not yet been hooked up. It is old enough that the grass fully covering the spaces between the campsites. This brings me to the observations about the sites. Each site has a much larger than the normal spacing between RVs than any typical RV park.

This location is still “under-construction” and trees are planned. In fact, fifty trees are planned, but for us, there was zero shade other than cast by our RV.

When the high school is in session expect typical noises, including school bells. For us, this was not an issue but we won’t be here during the school season.

We can also hear loudspeaker noise from neighbors to the west.

Overall the price was higher than desired but the convenience to other locations was the draw. We stopped after 10 days of dry camping in the shade next to a lake, kayaking every day. While here we re-stocked the refrigerator and fuel at Costco which is less than a half-mile away.

Caution

Campsites need to be booked through the fairgrounds office during fair week and have a minimum stay of six nights. They are not available via the normal on-line reservations. All sites are currently operated on reservations. Walk-ups are currently not allowed.
