Campsite Review River Island Campground

Campsite Review: River Island Campground

Campsite Review: River Island Campground located just to the north of US Highway 95 south of Lake Havasu. It is a very nice campground.

At the campground, there are 37 well-spaced sites with water and electricity. Sites numbers 30 – 37 are very short, but they are also facing the water. Ten of the larger sites are back in — we recommend sites # 1 – 4 the best because they are on the west side and get the most afternoon shade. Back in sites 24 – 29 are on the east side and will remain in the sun longer. The remaining sites are pull through.

Observations

Campsite Review: Campsite Review: River Island Campground insider info:

The entire Colorado River valley will be extremely hot in the summer.

River Island is a delightful Arizona State Park right on the Colorado River, stacked between two large granite rocks.

We liked River Island enough to include it on our trip back to Yuma before our stop at Quartzsite. River Island was a quiet spot.

In the summer River Island is very popular for one good reason, unlike most of the Colorado River, River Island will have afternoon shade because it is between two large rocks. In the summer pick campsites as far west in the campground as possible.

All campsites except # 30 – 37 will hold large RVs with limited room for tow vehicles.

In the past, some RVs have been able to camp on the road to the boat launch without hookups for a reduced fee when the primary campground is full.

Bonus

The bonus here is access to the river, south of Lake Havasu. The beach is very nice and on weekends, especially in the spring, the beach will be full.

Caution

If you tow a car, make sure to tow the car into the campground, otherwise, there is a second vehicle charge for your tow vehicle.

You cannot hold a site for another camper who will arrive later. All sites must be occupied by an RV upon arrival. Sites are assigned upon arrival for all first come first served sites. Better yet get reservations.

If you fail to show up by noon the day following your reservation, you will forfeit your reservation without a refund.

RVs greater than 24 feet are not allowed in campsites 30-37 are very short and have limited electical.
