The Borghese Gallery is all about the best fine art. In many cases, especially when considering Masterpiece paintings in the Borghese Gallery, these are the original paintings by the original artists.
Photoblog, Rome, Italy, Europe. April 4, 2025
What are we doing in Europe? Here is the story. Touring Europe might be a crazy idea.
You might say that Pope Paul V (Cardinal Camillo Borghese) of (1605-1621), his cardinal nephew, and Cardinal Scipone Caffarelli Borghese (1577-1633) loved the fine arts. However, they were not above cheating and using the power of the Papacy to empower their wealth and collections. One of the first things they did was confiscate the paintings in Cavalier d’Arpino’s studio. In 1607, they gained possession of about 100 works, including several of Caravaggio’s youthful ones.
They were unrelenting in obtaining artworks and indulging in their passion as an art collector. Borghese filled the private collection with Masterpiece paintings, which filled twenty large rooms across two floors with priceless artworks and sculptures, including frescos painted on all the walls and ceilings.

About our photos
These photos were taken during our visit. Our photos are often “enhanced” to represent what we saw in person and correct for lighting and other things. Sometimes, this editing makes the images look better than what we saw in person.

Sorry for the delay in publishing your comments. Some comments come from personal emails and Facebook. Please know that we would love to hear from you.
