2018 Route Wandering the West

Not all pins represent overnight stops.

This selection documents our 2018 Route Wandering the West, and the stops along the way. We departed San Diego on February 25, 2018  moving from being RV campers to RV travelers. Our first primary destination is Joshua Tree National Park, where I got reservations on the very first minute that reservations were available. Prior to that, we could not have visited Joshua Tree because the park is so popular and so close to major population centers — and every campsite in Joshua Tree was first come first serve. Since our RV would not fit into most campsites at Joshua Tree, we needed the reservation to ensure that we could fit.

Our objective is to see as many national parks as possible. along the way.

Our route changed two big times and that is why it looks like it wasn’t planned and why we call it 2018 Route: Wandering the West.

We do have a general plan of first visiting the southwest and then push north through Utah as winter  turns into spring. Our focus will be to get as much of the northwestern states in the summer (dry season).  Our plan changed dramatically in August when wild fires started making the air quality unbearable. It only took about three days to realize that we had wheels and we could move to a place that wasn’t so eye watering.

Our plans changed again when the RV needed repairs delaying our exodus south longer than we wanted but all that worked out and we were back in warm weather (with unprecedented rain) by the time the rest of the country was embracing winter or should I say bracing for winter.
