This selection documents our 2018 Route from Boise to Las Vegas and the stops along the way. We departed Boise on October 9, 2018 traveling south to Winnemucca for the night and then to Gardnerville Nevada for eight days.
Our late start departing Bend Oregon had us worried about the possibility of bad weather. October can be very nice or very cold. The reason we are taking this route is to get to Gardnerville as soon as possible to see our friends and then get far enough south, that if the weather turns foul, that we can be in a warmer climate.
After leaving Gardnerville we drove south to Bishop for two nights and then made a huge mistake crossing the White Mountains from Big Pine to Deep Springs to spend a few days in Pahrump for three nights and then to Death Valley for eight nights.
Death Valley cancelled all worry about winter and it was still hot, at the end of October with no obvious end to the heat.
After Death Valley we went back to Pahrump for three more nights before going to Las Vegas.
Our primary must see location on the way was Death Valley and then Las Vegas for Tami’s birthday. As we got further south Death Valley was everything we could hope for and plenty warm, even at the end of October.
