We made the cover photo

Snippet: We made the cover photo for Family RVing magazine for the June 2019 issue. Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) is a membership association of RVers. They publish a wonderful monthly magazine and they chose my cell phone picture for the cover photo magazine.

San Onofre Beach

No filters involved. We were at San Onofre Beach last winter and treated to a very pretty sunset. So given the sunset and a cell phone, I submitted it to Family Motor Coach Association to be included in their magazine called Family RVing.

I didn’t know that it was a photo contest at the time. A magazine article said they were making a change away from RV manufacturers supplied photos and asked for pictures. So not reading carefully we sent this one. The article said that the requirements were that the photo needed to have an RV in it and the camera was to be held in a vertical format. I thought that given that my RV was almost not in the photo and that the photo was in landscape format I didn’t have a chance of being on the cover.

Last month we sent in a different photo of our RV New Mexico and although it was a nice picture, it didn’t have the pop of the sunset and didn’t make the publication list.

Anyway, one of our friends told us that we were on the cover and acknowledged inside. Earlier in the month, I got a hint that my photo was in final consideration because my contact asked where it was taken. 

After we got our issue of the magazine, I called Robin who was the FMCA person that asked questions about our photo. We found out that this was the first photo to win the contest. All the people making the decision were excited to have the first cover photo contest winner by an amateur with a cell phone.

Extended Membership

During the phone call, she mentioned the prize and I asked to have it converted into an extended membership. They were very generous — but that is not the reason we are FMCA members. Make sure to look in the menu on memberships and membership benefits. FMCA membership has saved us thousands of dollars compared to purchases made for our RV made at retail prices.
