Big Sur and Pebble Beach. We were warned that Big Sur and Pebble Beach is not RV country and I don’t disagree, but given our drives, it is not as bad as I was led to believe. We have gone down many roads that are worse, especially in Oregon, where we shared the roads with fearless logging truck drivers. Highway 1 lacks paved pull-outs that would be really handy to improve the drive — for the drivers behind me. The biggest reason that we won’t be RVing down Highway 1 through Big Sur is there aren’t any places that we could comfortably camp in our RV, and for us, because we like to stop frequently, we will be going south on Highway 101.
To follow up on my brief report, we are staying in Monterey, and have driven about 55 miles down Highway 1, just for the view.

In fact, the next time we come to Monterey, I hope to spend about a month, or two, or three. November to February might be nice, or it might rain. The golf course has a winter unlimited play deal that I have my eye on.

Big Sur
While driving the Big Sur coastline, south of Carmel, I started wondering if you could ever take too many pictures of waves crashing onto big rocks on this section of coastline. My answer is — I don’t think so. I think the same way about waterfalls and sunsets. I think you will agree that the view is wonderful.

Pebble Beach
Our drive through Pebble Beach was also wonderful and had great views, sometimes as good, or better than the coastline south of Carmel. Overall since the views are far more numerous south of Carmel, don’t skip the drive south of Carmel, to go to Pebble Beach. If however you play golf and have access ($) the very best views at Pebble Beach are from the golf course.

Monterey
The last time I was in Monterey was thirty years ago. I remember that it was overcast every day with mist every morning. You couldn’t really call it rain, and yes it was very beautiful, even with the mist, which did create problems associated with my only transportation method, which was my bicycle.

This time we have an RV, car, bicycles, and kayaks, so we are exploring places I have never been to. There is no way I am coming back only to stay for four days – next time I’m going to plan a much longer stay. The entire place is stunning.
Navy RV Park
Our lodging is at the Navy RV Park which is tucked between two fairways, right on the golf course. So far there are no problems with stray golf balls. Oh yes, I nearly forgot the airport, which is just on the other side of the fairway. It is a little noisy but they quit at night when we are sleeping. Every morning we get to hear the first plane of the day to wake us up.

Here is a link to the google map for the area.

Wow, that looks amazing.
Too beautiful! I forget how beautiful it is there. This is the area that romanced me enough to move to California many many years ago.
